Last year, there was an amendment on the ballot that threatened to disenfranchise seniors, new Minnesotans, college students and others.  I traveled the state to talk about the integrity of Minnesota’s elections and how the system already works to ensure we have free and fair elections. 
I am proud of the role I played to help to defeat the Photo ID amendment, but even prouder of average Minnesotans who saw through the lies about our election system and recognized that this was an expensive and unneeded impediment to voting.

While the Minnesota Legislature continues to debate what to do about predatory sex offenders, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is taking action, using a little noticed law passed in 2005 that allows prosecutors to seek life in prison for certain repeat criminals. We have used this for guys like Christopher Tate who raped a 15-year-old girl last year. We obtained a grand jury indictment against him and convinced a jury to convict him. He was sentenced him to life in prison.

Domestic abuse cases remain among the most prevalent cases charged by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.  They are very difficult cases, but I take them very seriously and we will continue to file charges and prosecute them if there is enough evidence even if the victim is  unable to cooperate.  
During my time as County Attorney we launched the Domestic Abuse Service Center (DASC). DASC continues to be a national leader in meeting the needs of victims of domestic violence. It is a one-stop center that provides victims with ready access to the legal assistance...
